The female you see at the beginning of the video is our Henry’s Mum. When she started breeding she changed and became very protective of her babies and eggs and her space. This happens. Our female, Rosie, is still very tame and loving but has not had any babies yet/ Henry is too young to breed.
Hope this is helpful to you.

How come your other female is no longer tame, or the one in the aviary? I want to get a semi-tame eclectus female (nippy and takes time to warm up) and I’m hoping I can work with her and bond over time. Do you think I will have success (you seem knowledgable)

Thanks for that. You are the second person to suggest he may be older than we think. He’s a wonderful bird, loving, gentle and healthy. Working on new video now with an update.

Nice looking male, I can confirm that the beak of an adult is all orange and yellow like a candy corn. You only see spots of black up until about 1 yrs old. Maybe whomever sold him told you he was younger so that it would convince you, they do that alot. Nevertheless, he’s a beauty. If he is a Solomon, his size may be slightly bigger than Rosie as he is a male. If he is much bigger, he may be a different subspecies or even a hibred. Have you joined LandofVos?

Further to our correspondence, its confirmed he’s a solomon island breed from a family of big, healthy birds.

Hi, I’ve yet to confirm the breed of eclectus we’ve bought. But the solomon island males have their beaks yellow from the start. He’s definitely young as he’s just now gaining the strength to climb around his cage. Our Rosie’s beak was brown around the edge until she was about a year old when it went completely black. Thanks for your interest!!

I have a red – sided male
when he was a chick, his beak was all black, like his sister’s…as he matured it slowly turned orange… the last bit of black went away at about 2yr.

Not sure??? The lower mantle is black in adult birds. I think he’s a larger breed than Rosie, a soloman island breed.
