Ekkie’s main diet should be of veggies and sprouts first, THEN fruits, THEN “natural” pellets (no-dye), THEN things like rices, beans, perhaps small amount of OCCASIONAL nuts and breads. They’re not supposed to have lots and lots of protein. Delicate species- not quite for the novice. MUST DO RESEARCH!

Hi. I’m trying to decide between getting an Eclectus or an African Grey. What do you think is best? Would you recommend two if I work?

    Budgeis don’t eat fruit.
They are strictly seed eaters. In the wild, they fly to the ground and eat seeds. They don’t usually eat fruit. Some budgies eat vegies.

DON’T give an ekkie pellets, they cause many problems in eclectus parrots. Make up a fresh mash for your eclectus of fresh fruits, veggies, brown rice ect… just look on google for ”eclectus mash” and you’ll get many recipes and information.

my inlaws suppliment their pellet food with 7 grain toast, eggs, carrots, apples, turkey breast, fish, berries. But what they really flip out for is pomegranates. They eat those in the wild. Oh and they really like to eat whenever you are eating.

I have an Ekkie and I feed him pellets not colored because the colored pellets are not good for him I also keep fresh safflower seed in his cage in case he wants it.. but his main diet cosists of fresh srouts pasta beans fruits and vegies.. But of coarse not all birds will eat what is given to them so I also cook for my Ekkie and I add red palm oil and omega 3 oil to the batch I am cooking.. He is in perfect feather and health ..
