$800-$1000
I raise Solomon Island eclectus and I sell mine for $850.00.
Eclectus do have specific dietary needs though. They have long digestive tracts which cause them to be prone to fatty liver disease if not kept on a low fat diet. Lots of veggies, fruits, greens, beans, brown rice, legumes and sprouts. These birds do not do well on all seed diets nor do they do well on pellet diets. Anything with vitamin supplements is a bad thing with this species.
Yahoo has a group called Ekkie Chat. Lots of info on diet and care as well as temperament and expectations. Lots of ekkie owners/breeders to talk to as well. A few people there have my bought my babies. It’s a good place to check out. Also, landofvos and shades of red and green.
Good luck. They are great companion birds..quiet for parrots and spectacular color.
And Red..yes they are very affectionate. What you considering to be affection may be different than what eclectus consider affection. You can’t play “maul the birdy” with eclectus, no. They don’t like to be rolled around and roughed up like macaws and cockatoos do but they love kisses, being played with, toes rubbed, beaks rubbed..etc. Mine will sit on my shoulder and just talk to me..whisper in my ear, give me kisses, whistle. They just generally don’t like their feathers roughed up. They think it has something to do with their unique hairlike feather structure…which is also the reason they don’t do well their their flights cut. They tend to “barb” or shred the tip of the cut feather shaft.
We’ve had an african grey for over 10 years and I’m here to say, the male eclectus talk as well and sometime better than the greys. Go to youtube and look up Riley the male eclectus. That’s a prime example of what a male eclectus is capable of. They are like any other incredibly intelligent parrot..all they need is time and lots of attention to become an amazing talker.
They usually run between $700 and $2000, and that’s just for the bird you will also need a large cage, another $250 to $1000, lots of toys to keep it entertained, a large variety of food to keep it healthy and don’t forget about the vet bills. And just remember ALL parrots require alot of work to keep up. I guess what I am saying is don’t buy a bird until you have done ALOT of research.
Birds make wonderful pets, if you choose the right one for your lifestyle. Eclectus birds aren’t very affectionate, so keep that in mind. I own an African Grey and a little Pionus Parrot and love them both. They are both very affectionate and the Grey talks so much its like having another person living there.
I don’t know exactly what the Eclectus cost but I do think they are around $1200 (depends on the breeder0
Good luck with your bird!
As Jenn says they have different dietry requirements that need to be met on a daily basis. You can’t just offer seed or pellet.
As for being affectionate. Tell my guy they’re not supsed to be affectionate, he loves his snuggles! It has a lot to do with how they’re raised as bubs but they can be affectionate for sure.
Here WA, Australia they’re around 500 to 800 depending on where you go. My guy cost me 550.
If you do really want one of these make sure you do loads of research first, especially on thier diets.
I have a beautiful red head that I adopted from the vet I use to work at. I say adopt one if you can. There are so many birds out there that need a loving home. But don’t take it lightly. It’s not like getting a cat or dog. They require a lot of attention and love. My eclectus was a former breeder bird and became extremely stressed in her environment and pulled out ALL of her feathers. After some TLC and a new home she has grown them all back. I’m still working on handling her though. She does talk some and I absolutely love having her around. They seem, to me, to be a lot more laid back then some other birds so they’re definitely a good one to get. Just please think about it first. So many people buy birds without realizing they might out live you!! They take lots of love and attention, but will give it right back to you! Good luck!
Any bird can be noisy & all birds are hard to take care of even if you do it right. They throw food onto the floor, poop on perches, cage floor, shred or chew toys, etc… In order to get a good temperment, they need to get out of their cage & spend time with you. Even then, that doesn’t mean you will end up w/ a perfect companion. I have owned many dogs in my life & many birds. Dogs are easier to take care of. That is just my opinion. You also have to make sure there is an Avian Vet available to you in your area. Once a bird shows illness, you need to have them seen ASAP. I have been blessed to not have any Avian emergencys, but I do know who to call right away. As for price, I found a wonderful breeder who ony sold to good homes (not pet stores) & I paid $900 & that included a health warrentee. Please think about these things before buying a bird. Clare
My friend is a breeder of Vos marie Eclectus. She should have some eggs soon. She is asking $1200 for a weaned baby. If you are interested, e-mail me and I can put you in touch with her.
i definitly would advise you to not get an Electus. They are very beautiful but not all that friendly or outgoing. Huge is needed which your looking at 500+ dollars PLUS the bird..which is VERY expensive.. not to mention the *big bird* toys and food.
i would recommend maybe a larger conure?
(i own one and he is perfect in every way!
maybe a quaker?
Good luck!
