How should I “play” with my Eclectus Parrot?

Category: Eclectus Parrot Forum

I have a 6 month old Ekkie, who is more than a little territorial of his cage and I’m trying to get him used to being outside the cage more. All the books and websites I’ve read say I should show him lots of attention and let him out of the cage. But the moment I put him on the floor to explore he walks straight to the cage. Help?

You need an outside perch or gym for him. That way, he’ll have someplace to be besides the floor. Birds do NOT like being on the floor. They are vulnerable and uncomfortable on the floor. It is unnatural for them.

I use a little stick as a perch i teach my birds tricks useing it. By having something in my hands i am closer to the bird and they like it better. Besure to teach the step up.
