We have a large yellow naped amazon who has bit me for 16 years and hates my guts and curses at me daily. I am the feeder, toy giver, I talk to him, I love him, but he hates me and I think if he could get to me, he would do major damage!!!

He has choosen my husband as his mate (In his mind), and my husband can do everything with him and they go in the car and all over town, but as soon as the bird sees me and he is on my husband hand, he will bite my husband and not even look my way...that is their was of saying "stay in line, your mine".

If you have not bonded with your bird by now, then you will probably never bond.

Feeding issues: You never invade his home, that is like the plummer coming in your home with out knocking and you are standing in a pair of thong underwear and your 200lbs over weight...NEVER INVADE HIS SPACE.

Bring him out of the cage and put him on a t-stand and then reach into his space and get feeding bowls.

Bed time is when the family goes to bed, lights off and cover his cage. In the wild he would pick a heavy leaf tree with alot of foliage to blend in with his green feathers, so cover his cage...he will settle down and he will not panic in that kind of cages/spaces.

Uncover the cage early in the a.m. but if he get to load for you or company, cover the cage again, and again he will settle down.

Great luck to you, as we have a bird I haven't been able to even touch in soooooooo many years, research of the exotic birds was my answer to his behavior.

Break his behavior before he sexually matures or you will never. You will be doomed to the bites and damage. I use to have a beautiful female but she was a handful and needed a mate. With this breed...They have to be a pet or a breeder, they can never both, so good luck!!!

I am going to assume a couple things, so please bear with me.

Are you reaching into his cage? It's just like a teenager when the parents intrude in their space. Their cage is their temple within your home, and it is best to respect their privacy. Try to keep your hands out unless absolutely necessary- this means putting food in his cage before he goes in, or letting him out before you reach in.

Are you feeding him in different places? It sounds like the rest of his life is on a schedule, so try to limit the movement; he may have a certain spot he likes more then the rest.
-or-
Is he fed in only one place? Have you tried different places? Try to keep him on his toes! Sometimes looking out from the bars of the cage when eating can be boring.

This may be a possession problem. He may be afraid of you taking his food from him. If it is outside his cage, put the food out, then bring your eclectus to it.

Keep me posted!
