my new baby eclectus parrot is 9 wks old and is continuously making screaming noises.. would anyone know why? i just purchesed a 9wk old eclectus parrot – she is beautiful and tame enough to pet and tcouh, but she makes these loud screaching/screaming noises every 5 mins all day! I am worried about if this is noramal of if i should be taking her to the vet or if she will just grow out of it? the breeder said that many eclectus parrots are noisy when they are babys and grow out of it? does anyone know if this is true? Your bird is calling for it’s parents, you need to give it more attention, this may quieten it down but, when you are not there ,then it will call for you!!!
It’s a vicious circle.
9wks old??? She’s probably not weaned! Most Eclectuses are weaned at about 4 months! She is begging for food! That is what they do to their parents to say they are hungry!! Take her to a vet, you may have to hand-rear her which is very hard and time consuming. If not done correctly, bad hand-rearing may damage your bird for life. You will probably have to take the bird back or at least take it to the vet and see what they think. Usually Eclectuses are quiet, especially as babies. Also female Eclectuses have a reputation for being bad pets nad hard to handle once they reach sexual maturity, after that their behaviour is likely to be erratic, males make much better pets. Females are often also nippy and dominant so need a very dominant owner.
Hope this helps! Good luck! i hope you have fun with your Eclectus! :)
