Do eclectus parrots tend to get used to just one person?

Question by Charlotte: Do eclectus parrots tend to get used to just one person?
I own a female eclectus parrot and I have had her for about three years. She is very nice to me but she seems to be nasty to other people. Is this the proper nature of eclectus parrots? I have heard that the males are quite nicer than the females. Also she does not seem to have a very warm personality even though she is eccentric. Are eclectus parrots independent natured?

Developing a bond with one person more than others is a common trait of most parrots. Not just the Eclectus. And, almost all parrots tend to be very independent. Starting the socialization process at a very young age is very important with all parrots and is especially helpful with Eclectus. Both genders can be very loving while younger but can tend to be more aloof and standoffish as they near sexual maturity. You didn’t say which type you have, whether the Vos Marie or the Solomon Island. It is thought that the SI”s tend to be a bit more laid back but bottom line is, they are all parrots with all the pros and cons that come with them. There is no fool proof preventative but socialization with more different people, throughout the bird’s lifetime can make it better. All you can do is to have as many trusted friends and family members interact with her as much as possible. However, they do need to be folks who are not afraid of getting a nip and who fully understand how to interact with parrots. This is truly a case of “the more, the merrier. At drsfostersmith they sell it. I am not sure if you have local bird store near you. I think it is also available on a local bird store as well.
Also, check www.birdchannel.com I think thre is a special section in there just for eclectus food nutrition guide. It is on their November 2010 issue, I just happen to have an early release of their issue because I am a subscriber.
