Question by Alissa: is 9 years old too old to breed eclectus parrots?
I am an experienced breeder but I am not experienced with breeding Eclectus parrots
I have a pair of 9 yr old Eclectus Parrots they are in good health and on a very good diet.
My only question is are they too old to breed.
Please only give an answer if you are experienced in breeding Eclectus parrots.

i have hand raised electus before.

warn you these birds are very prone to tape worm so have that checked thoroughly and dewormed against it, esp in the first few months of babies life.

as for breeding, 9 should not be too old as far as i know as the live decades – they only mature and come into their prime i believe from 3-5 onwards, but i stand to be corrected. diet is vital to them. calcium, greens, fruits, PROTEINS/WORMS/BUGS. so much depends on the birds and how they were looked after and handled before coming into your care too.

guessing you know the obvious that purple/red is female, and green/red is male.

I have an eclectus parrot who is 5 years old – but to this day still bites the hand that feeds him?

He lives at the resort, has everything he wants, talks underwater, has two cages one indoors and outdoors only gets locked away for bed time which he hates doesnt like to go to be would love to stay up all night – he is a male, just would love him not to attack me when i give him food

my eclectus parrot isn’t talking near as much as I think he should be, and he is 6 years old. Please read ?

I have a male eclectus parrot and he has a pretty wide vocab range, however he doesn’t use it that much.

If we put him out in the tree, he will sometimes yell random stuff to people as they walk by, but when its just me and him sittin down on the couch watchin TV, he rarely talks when I talk to him.

He makes alot of noises and we talk to him alot to try to get him to say something back, or maybe to chatter more with us…but he just sits there and looks at us.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to get my eclectus parrot to talk more???

Also…he talks ALOT when we cover his cage and just sit in the room…he will just go through his vocab late at night if you sneak into the room without him knowing you are there…its almost like he’s shy??? we are soooo nice to him, and we love him very much, just want the little guy to talk more!!

How can stop my male Eclectus Parrot from pulling his feathers? It’s been years now….?
