Eclectus like to practice talking, which they do alone, and then when they figure they have it right, they will talk in front of you. Age will help him through this. "Closet Talkers" are very common in eclectus parrots & nothing to worry about. It's their way of practice talking. When they are learning to talk they do take everything on board that you teach them & say to them. Majority of them become closet talkers until they're a little more comfortable talking around you & anywhere in the house. This can also come with age. His continual closet talking is only the first step to you hearing his never ending talking. Give him a few months & he will be talking around & to you directly. He will talk to you, give him time. It won't make him think it's a routine & stick to it. It's a very normal & common behaviour in young ekkies & they grow out of it. FYI: You can teach your ekkie to talk up until about 1 year old. After this they actually teach themselves. Once they reach this age they become a lot more observant, they will watch your every move & listen to your every word, even if you're not in the same room.
